Step-by-Step: Add Chatonbo to Squarespace
Follow these six steps to get your AI chatbot live on your Squarespace website. The entire process takes 2-3 minutes.
Sign Up for Chatonbo and Create a Bot
Head to chatonbo.com/platform/register and create your account. You can sign up with your email or use Google OAuth for one-click access. Once logged in, click "Create New Bot" - give it a name, choose an AI model (GPT-5.4, Claude, or Gemini), and set the conversational tone that matches your brand.
Configure Your Bot Settings and Knowledge Base
Train your chatbot so it knows your business inside and out. Add your Squarespace website URL and Chatonbo will automatically crawl and index the content. Upload PDF documents like product catalogs, FAQs, or policy documents. You can also paste raw text or Q&A pairs. The more knowledge you add, the smarter your bot becomes. Set the personality and customize the widget colors, welcome message, and position to match your Squarespace site's design.
Copy the Embed Script Tag
In your Chatonbo dashboard, navigate to your bot and open the "Embed" page. You will see a single-line script tag that looks like this:

Click the copy button to copy this script tag to your clipboard. You will paste it into Squarespace in the next step.
Open Squarespace Code Injection
Log in to your Squarespace account and open your site. From the Home Menu, navigate to Settings > Advanced > Code Injection. On Squarespace 7.1, this is found under Settings > Advanced > Code Injection as well - the path is the same across versions.
Note: Code Injection is available on the Squarespace Business plan and higher. It is not available on the Personal plan - you will need to upgrade if you are on Personal.
Paste the Script into the Footer Box and Save
On the Code Injection page you will see two boxes: Header and Footer. Paste the Chatonbo script tag you copied in Step 3 into the Footer box (not the Header). Placing it in the Footer ensures the widget loads after your page content for the best performance. Then click Save.
- Paste into: Footer box (recommended) - not the Header box
- Scope: Site-wide - the widget loads on every page automatically
- Finish: Click Save to apply the change
Publish, Refresh, and Test
The widget now loads site-wide on every page. Visit your live Squarespace site and refresh it - you should see the Chatonbo chat bubble in the bottom-right corner. Click it to open the chat window and test a conversation. Verify that the bot responds with accurate answers based on your knowledge base.
Want the Chatbot on Just One Page?
If you only want the chatbot on a single page - for example a contact page or a specific product page - you can add the script with a Code Block instead of Code Injection. Keep in mind this only shows the widget on that one page, so for a chatbot across your whole site, use the Footer Code Injection method above.
Open the page you want the chatbot on and click Edit.
Add a new content block and choose Code from the block menu.
Paste the Chatonbo script tag into the Code Block and confirm it is set to HTML (not Markdown).
Apply the block changes, then Save the page.
Refresh the live page and confirm the chat bubble appears on that page only.
