AI Chatbot Glossary

What Is Zero-Party Data?

Zero-party data is information a customer intentionally and proactively shares with a business, such as their preferences, needs, budget, or purchase intent, as opposed to first-party data, which the business observes from behaviour like page views and purchases.

Definition

The term distinguishes what people tell you from what you infer. First-party data comes from your own systems: browsing history, cart contents, order records. Zero-party data comes from the customer's own statements: answers to a quiz, a stated size or skin type, "I need this before the 20th", "I am comparing you with X". Because it is volunteered, it is both more accurate and easier to justify under privacy rules than tracking-based inference. Chat is one of the richest sources of zero-party data, since shoppers explain their situation in their own words while asking for help.

Why Zero-Party Data Matters for AI Chatbots

Third-party cookies are fading, and inferred profiles are getting less reliable, so what customers say directly is becoming the most useful data a store owns. Every chatbot conversation is a small interview. Chatonbo turns those statements into usable records: it captures leads with the context of the conversation, generates a short AI summary of what the visitor wanted, and forwards it with attribution fields to your CRM or webhook, so sales and marketing see the customer's own words rather than a guess.

Personalization

Personalization tailors chatbot responses to individual users based on browsing history, past purchases, location, or prior conversations - driving engagement and conversion.

CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

A CRM is a system for managing all your company's interactions with current and potential customers - chatbots sync captured leads and conversation history into the CRM automatically.

Lead Qualification

Lead qualification is the process of evaluating whether a potential customer is a good fit - AI chatbots qualify by asking targeted budget, need, timeline, and authority questions.
